Use the Trail to see the network of downtown Indy’s dynamic public spaces:
- Lugar Plaza
- Downtown Canal Walk
- Georgia Street

1. Lugar Plaza
Find it: Along Washington Street between Delaware and Alabama Street, across the street from downtown Indy’s Julia M. Carson Transit Center.
How to get there: Already downtown, it’s a short walk or bike-ride away! Take a bus to downtown Indy’s Julia M. Carson Transit Center or ride Pacers Bikeshare to the station at the corner of Deleware and Washington Street. Driving? There is metered street parking available on the surrounding block.
While you’re there:
- Starting in May 2023, bring your dog and enjoy the PAWP-UP Pup Park from dawn to dusk.
- Pack a picnic to enjoy on the lawn.
- Let the kids splash in the splash pad – you can play too as long as you’re nice.
- Find the swings and let them rock you.
- Learn about art and history.
- BYO bocce ball set.
- Read a magazine.
- Look UP – you have a great view of lots of interesting architecture.
- Enjoy the shared space in your community.


2. Downtown Canal
Find it: Senate Street & Walnut Street along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail
How to get there: Already downtown? Ride, walk, or bike! Driving? There is metered street parking available on surrounding streets, and an IndyGo line with stops a few blocks away.
While you’re there:
- Grab Pacers Bikeshare or BYOBike and see it all.
- Enjoy the Colts Canal Playspace – downtown’s largest and newest playground.
- Find a place to lay out a blanket and enjoy a book, magazine, or board game.
- Use it as a route to visit some of Indy’s historical places and cultural institutions.
- Lace-up your sneakers and run! It’s ~3 miles or a 5k roundtrip.
- Enjoy this beautiful community asset.

3. Georgia Street
Find it: Connects to the Cultural Trail on Capitol Avenue and spans Georgia Street from Capitol Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue
How to get there: Driving? There are a few nearby parking garages for Circle Center Mall that are very convenient for Georgia Street Access. There is street parking available on surrounding streets, and an IndyGo bus stop only a few blocks away.
While you’re there:
- Visit one of the restaurants lining the street.
- Sit down on a bench and look up – lots of great architecture here.
- Grab a friend, a drink, and catch-up on life.
- Walk to your favorite event at Lucas Oil, Bankers Life Fieldhouse, or Convention Center.
- Learn about Hoosiers who have made a mark on history.
- Explore this urban walkway, created when Indy hosted the SuperBowl in 2012.
