E-Bikes Coming to Pacers Bikeshare in 2024!

Indianapolis Cultural Trail, Inc. in partnership with the Herbert Simon Family Foundation, the City of Indianapolis and Pacers Sports & Entertainment today announced a combined investment to expand and enhance the Pacers Bikeshare program. The funding will enable the Indianapolis non-profit community bikeshare program to bring 250 e-bikes to the City of Indianapolis in spring of 2024.

Created as a public-private partnership, the Pacers Bikeshare program launched in April 2014 with 25 stations and 250 bikes along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail: A Legacy of Gene and Marilyn Glick. The Indiana Pacers Bikeshare program grew to 50 stations and 500 bikes in 2019 when it expanded out of downtown to neighborhoods along the City’s bike and greenway network.

What type of e-bikes are they?

Pacers Bikeshare e-bikes are class I e-bikes made by Trek specifically for public use through their BCycle product line. Users will be able to turn on and off the electric assist part of the bike.

How much will it cost to ride an e-bike through Pacers Bikeshare?

Pricing details will be announced when Pacers Bikeshare e-bikes are available in Spring 2024. Various pass options will be available to suit different types of use.

What are the benefits of using e-bikes compared to regular bicycles or other transportation options?

The Pacers Bikeshare e-bikes are electric assist bikes. When the e-assist is turned on, e-bikes can go up to 15 miles per hour. E-bikes allow people to ride further distances in less time and make it easier for people of all abilities to ride bikes. The electric assist makes them easier to power, especially for longer distances and on hills. E-bikes are a form of sustainable transportation and can replace vehicle trips, helping to improve our local environment and air quality.

Are e-bikes suitable for beginners, or do I need prior bike riding experience?

E-bikes are suitable for riders of various skill levels, including beginners. They provide an extra boost of power called pedal assist, making them an accessible option for all.

Will Pacers Bikeshare continue to offer traditional bicycles alongside e-bikes?

Yes, Pacers Bikeshare will continue to offer traditional bicycles, providing users with a choice of transportation options.
