Site preparation on new Pacers Bikeshare stations begins today

Starting today, site preparation will begin on the 22 new Pacers Bikeshare locations. In April, Indianapolis Cultural Trail, Inc. announced the new Pacers Bikeshare station locations. Two hundred seventy five new bike share bikes are also a part of the 2019 expansion. The Pacers Bikeshare expansion will increase station density downtown, expand to near downtown neighborhoods and add stations along the Monon Trail and other greenways. A map highlighting the new stations and the expanded Pacers Bikeshare network can be found here.

“Adding Pacers Bikeshare stations to more neighborhoods increases access to Pacers Bikeshare and makes it easier and more convenient for people to use Pacers Bikeshare for their transportation, exercise and recreation,” said Kären Haley, Indianapolis Cultural Trail, Inc., executive director. “Since the Pacers Bikeshare launched in 2014, we have received requests to expand to more neighborhoods and destinations outside of downtown which is exactly what we are doing with this expansion.”

During the station installation process, crews will pour concrete pads and conduct electrical work. Stations will be installed after the site prep work is complete.

The Pacers Bikeshare expansion is funded by a $1 million Federal Highway Administration Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant. The Herbert Simon Family Foundation is providing a portion of the grant’s local match. Twenty of the new stations are funded through the CMAQ grant and two of the new stations are funded by private entities who recognize the value of investing in a Pacers Bikeshare station near their property to provide a healthy mobility option for their clients, residents and visitors.
